An occlusal plate is a custom-made acrylic appliance that protects teeth from wear and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).
A sealant is a preventive treatment consisting of a white resin applied to the top of teeth with deep pits and/or grooves. The risk of developing cavities in the hollows is greatly reduced, since the tooth is smoother and easier to brush.
Ways to prevent cavities include effective dental hygiene, a low-sugar diet and regular dental check-ups.
Although the majority of cavities present no symptoms, if left untreated they can progress and cause pain.
